Christian Education for ages nursery through 12th grade
Classes for Children: Ages nursery – 5th Grade.
9:50-10:20 a.m. – Rejoice! Kids’ Choir
10:20-11 a.m. – Sunday School, Education Building
Every Sunday, children in preschool through fifth grade will gather together in the 3rd floor choir room for a time of music and singing with Rejoice! Kids’ Choir.
After choir, children will be led to their Sunday school classrooms on the second floor of the Education Building. Using Spark curriculum, children will experience Bible stories through games, cooking, drama, art and science. This fall, they will learn about baby Moses, hear how Solomon built the Temple, and then finish the term with the Advent Story.
Youth – Middle School and High School
9:50-11 a.m. – MICAH Youth Center
Sunday mornings from 9:50 to 11 a.m. youth and adult leaders will meet in the youth center for class. The first 10 minutes will serve as time to gather, settle in and hear announcements about upcoming youth activities. The mid-high and senior high will split for class and discussion.
This year’s focus for mid-high is Journey, an introduction to Christian faith, while senior high will be focusing on finding God and the spirit living in others among us.
Other Youth information
Youth Group – a time to gather on Sunday afternoons in a fun and supportive group to practice living out our faith through fellowship, worship, studying scriptures, praying for each other and reaching out in mission. Mid-High and Sr. High meet together in the MICAH Youth Center at 12:30 to 2 p.m.
Mission Projects for young people also happen throughout the year:
Summer 2015 – there were two mission opportunities – in June, a team traveled to Mexico City for an International Mission Trip. Scroll down the page for photos! The mid-high aged youth, with adult chaperons and the assistance of two high school interns traveled in July to Portland, Oregon and worked with L.A.S.T (Learning and Serving Together) and participated in many different mission opportunities around the city. Other mission opportunities:
- Saturdays of Service – Once a quarter, we gather together to go out to serve our community! November is the next scheduled Saturday of Service, date and activities to be announced.
- Many other small mission projects come up throughout the year. Soup kitchens, and Marion/Polk Food Share are two examples of this. Any youth are encouraged and welcome to participate – details are on the youth website (www.salemfirstumcyouth.org) which can be reached by clicking the link located at the top left of this page.
Activity Time and the Nursery are always in need of snacks for Sunday childcare. Please drop your donations of cheese sticks, crackers, etc. by the church office!
Christmas Eve falls on a Sunday this year, so there will be one combined morning service at 11 a.m. in the Sanctuary. A perfect experience for children, this service is developed for families! All are welcome to come to the “Do It Yourself Christmas Pageant.”
